About Web Surfing
- If you know the exact web address (URL), click on 'OPEN' in the Netscape Header, find it between 'Image' and 'Print' or under FILE 'open location'.
- A dialog box opens to receive the Location. Type or paste it then click 'OPEN'.
- I stash URLs in a folder and do the old Copy and Paste.
- If you do not know the exact address, climb aboard a search engine. But which one?
- There are two main types, Index and Directory
- Directory Engines find web page titles that match the general information on a subject or place.Touring universities, libraries and museums are best done with a directory engine.
- Index Engines comb the individual pages of web sites to find a match. They search any and everywhere that they can access to gather and store information.
- The best advice is to read the search tips given by each engine. Use of the words: And, Or and Not can be useful.
